Making the body PART 13
Hi there,
So I had some difficulties with the back…… As I mentioned in the previous post, it had actually been several months before I gained the nerve to bend the sides, which meant that the soundboard and back were sitting up against my wall slowing warping (unbeknownst to me).
SO…
After trimming the bracing, I squared everything up and continued to mark where the kerfing needed to be notched.
Which leads us to this. It was at this stage that I realized that the back had warped. What was once a nice gentle concaved back was now perfectly flat. I didn’t want that. I hadn’t built the body for that. In other words, it pissed me off. I left it for a day and came back to it after I had thought about it. What I decided was to try and bend it back into shape using weight.
That didn’t work.
So I ended up simply gluing it and REALLY clamping it down. After a couple spots that didn’t want to glue under the caul, I glued them seperately and went on my way. That was it. The body was now in one piece. Not perfectly symmetrical, but that’s how I wanted it. Obviously hand crafted.
And then finally…
Next time we’ll talk about another attempt at a neck LOL

Good that you are including mistakes, those are the critical parts!

I couldn’t find anywhere to show me what NOT to do so I thought I’d just do it and give someone else the benefit of my mistakes.
